The Boy, the Horse, and the Fiddle (Bilingual Mandarin and English)

Description

On the vast Chahar grassland, a young shepherd boy named Su He lives with his grandmother. One day, he rescues a weak foal while herding sheep. Under his care, the foal grows into a strong, beautiful white horse, becoming his closest companion. The horse not only accompanies Su He during the day but also guards him and his grandmother at night, bravely fending off wild wolves. At the Naadam Festival, Su He wins the horse race with his white horse, attracting the attention of a greedy ruler who forcibly takes the horse. The horse, trying to escape, is shot by arrows and falls into Su He’s arms. Heartbroken, Su He dreams of the horse’s spirit, which guides him to craft a magical two-stringed instrument from the horse’s remains, called the Morin Khuur (horsehead fiddle). Whenever Su He plays it, the sound of galloping horses comforts him and echoes across the grassland. This story beautifully depicts the deep bond between the boy and his horse, celebrating loyalty, courage, and everlasting love.
